Thinking of a Backpacking Trip?

As the weather is warming up and summer is approaching, I am sure you are about to explore a new region in the country or abroad. Traveling outside your state is an excellent way to connect with new people, explore new cultures, and rest from a hectic life schedule. If these are your goals this summer, I have some quick recommendations for you. I hope some of these tips will save you a lot as you head into your next adventure

1. Cheap sometimes is expensive

Backpacking across Europe sounds impressive until you get exhausted from living in dorms and constantly living out of your small backpack. Hostel dorm rooms provide a cheap way to meet new people since you are shoved in the same room and can’t avoid anyone. However, if you don’t want to meet new people or be stuck around people who snore, I suggest you get that room in a better place.

2. Goodbyes

Meeting new people is easy while you travel. However, the reality of backpacking is you’ll probably only interact for a night. Since people’s schedules during the trips are different, it is difficult to have lasting connections. While social media may also exist to further the growth of friendships, these connections tend to fade with time as people return to their home countries. Therefore, if you are seeking connections, I recommend traveling with one or two friends.

3. Drinks all night long

While backpacking, everyone’s first night is probably another person’s last. Therefore, a lot of drinking is going to happen. As you start out this may be okay. However, it becomes boring after doing it for some weeks. Instead of going out, I suggest visiting a park or attending a concert. Doing so will break the backpacking experience's monotony, making those mornings much better. You could also choose to explore the local area and understand the life experiences of people in the area.

4. Affordability

Strike a balance between your frugality and exploration of opportunities. I mean, saving the money is fantastic. However, you don’t fly to Japan and fail to try some sushi. Experiencing the region's food and lifestyle provides more memories than restricting yourself. Aside from food, ensure you sign up for experiences outside of the scheduled events. Hence, try everything you can.

5. Visit all places you want

While more people have traveled than you, I firmly believe you should experience everything, including disappointments. Receiving feedback on suitable places to visit will only reduce the scope of your trip. Therefore, even if going up the mountain is a terrible idea, try it still.

While I love traveling, and it has enabled me to explore so many cultures in the past, I think preparation is vital when going ahead with the trip. Backpacking is often glamorized, but it is essential to acknowledge that you do not have to engage in all aspects of the experience. You could still go for a backpacking trip but choose to stay in cozy places instead of hostels. Doing so is essential, especially when the aim of the trip is resting. Therefore, remember you may meet a few inconsiderate people when planning your next backpacking trip. The journey has its ups and downs, but once you focus on adapting the trip to your needs, I’m certain you’ll enjoy every bit of the experience.
